Mathematical analyses are really at the heart of our process for forming models that represent the physical world. From a mathematical analysis, we can gain a mathematical model that relates the variables in the graph and may even reveal information about the system that was not changed during the experiment. Sometimes, this "held constant" stuff impacts the value of the slope of our curve of best fit.
